Horror Story

Today in Hurumanu 2 for reading we are doing Horror-themed reading. We are doing this because it is the last week of school. I'm writing my own horror story with Felicity. We did this on docs, we have 1/2 chapters done, the first chapter is small but I'll keep on adding on to it. We planned out the chapters and characters in the story, the characters are people from our class including us. What was hard, thinking of ideas for this story, what was easy, writing a horror story because I like writing stories.
Here is what we have so far on our story.

Chapter 1 - The Abandoned Cemetery

On Friday 13, there was a group who were walking home together because they were going to have a slumber party at Shelby’s house. On the way home, they found a mysterious tunnel that they never saw, but they decided to go through the tunnel late at night. All the girls started at exactly 7 PM, they painted their nails, put face masks on. A few minutes later the boy gang came and toilet papered our house but luckily no adults were home. They quickly took all the toilet paper of the house, but then Kirsty started thinking about the mysterious tunnel that they saw earlier on the way back home. Kirsty told the other girls about the mysterious tunnel and they all decided to go to that mysterious tunnel. They packed flashlights and batteries, 20 minutes later they arrived at their destination. They all went in together with their own flashlights, they saw cobwebs all around the tunnel. The girls finally made it to the other side, they saw an abandoned cemetery, they went around the cemetery, Loloma accidentally stood on someone's grave. After 40 minutes of exploring they decided to go back to Shelby’s house. On their way back to Shelby’s house they kept on hearing someone stepping on twigs on empty streets all they could see was dark streets and so much fog in the void in front of them, they also kept on hearing hissing noises and random things falling down. They finally got home, they all set up their beds, after they ordered pizza but it came an hour later, the pizza delivery woman seemed sus. The old lady seemed so rude she made the girls charge extra money. But the girls refused because the old lady came late and the pizza cooled down so they paid less money. The old lady just walked off after giving the girls an evil look.






 Chapter 2-The mean old lady 


The pizza woman was very weird looking and kind of suspicious-looking. She was wearing a black hoodie and her hood was up. She had long black gloves on, she gave them pizza, they took it inside and all sat down at the table and warmed it up since the pizza came an hour late. After pizza, the girls went to bed. They were all asleep but Riansha kept on hearing scratching noises from Shelby’s closet, and suddenly the windows opened “WHOOSH” the wind came in from the window, she quickly woke the other girls up as soon as everyone woke up everything stopped, all the girls thought that Riansha was crazy. But the scratching began again and the girls were scared and confused “Hey City can you go and call the boys so they can come and see what the hell is in my closet please” Said Shelby “Sure thing” said Felicity so she ran down the hallway to the kitchen were here phone was sitting in the microwave she picks it up and calls the boys “hello?’ said Isaac “hi is this Isaac” asked Felicity “Yes how are you?” said Isaac “Bro it’s me Felicity” Said Felicity “Oh hi haha what do you need” asked Isaac “there is a weird noise coming from Shelby’s closet” said Felicity 

“Ok we will all be there in a second,” said Isaac.

Collage Term 4 Art Unit

 Last week we started making collages. We used coloured papers to make our collage. I made a lake by mountains. We watched a video and we followed the steps, first, we had to lightly draw the picture we wanted, next, we chose the colours that we wanted on our collage, after, we ripped up the coloured paper that we choose, then, we glued the colours on our picture where we want them to be and then you're done. I choose to do a lake with mountains because I thought it will look good with different shades of colours of the mountains and the lake just looks better with something in the background. I enjoyed this activity because I like doing art so I really enjoyed doing this. What was easy, making my college was easy for me, what was hard, covering most of the white parts. I set a challenge for myself, which is that I have to add some type of 3D in my collage, and I achieved my challenge.

Wananga Activities - Diwali

This week we have to complete 5 activities. The first activity that I did was a Diwali activity, we have to create a DLO (digital learning object) about Diwali. I knew a little bit about Diwali because I celebrate it every year. I used Canva to make my DLO. What was hard, making the DLO look nice but also in theme, and try to make it stand out. What was easy, getting information onto the DLO about Diwali cause I knew everything. My favourite part was making the DLO because it looks so nice. My least favourite part was nothing really. I set my own challenge that was to do the most Diwali work out of everyone in my class. Please leave me some feedback!

Book Review For Freak The Mighty

Today for Reading we have to write a book review for our novel study book. We have to write our book review as a paragraph. The title of the book is Freak The Mighty, Rodman Philbrick wrote Freak The Mighty. I choose to read this book because the cover of the book looked interesting because two boys looked like they are having fun. I think this book is really good because its a really good relationship between two best friends, and I feel like I have something in common like them. My favourite part of the book was when they became really close friends. The characters in the story were Maxwell, Kevin, Gram, Grim, Killer Kane, and Lorreta. I would recommend this book for students because they might have a strong connection with the theme of this book. But anyone can read it young or old, but you don't have to but you might be interested. Out of 5 stars, in my opinion, this book is a 4-star rating, because the chapter titles are good but some of the writing in the chapters kind of don't match with the chapter title.

Recording Our Speeches

Yesterday for Hurumanu 4 we had to record us reading our speech in groups. My speech is about why students should be allowed to use their phones during class/school times. I have to answer a few questions to reflect on this term speech writing. What was easy, recording my speech. What was hard, reading my speech in front of my group.

What was something you enjoyed about this speech unit?

I enjoyed writing about my topic and sharing it with my group.

When were you challenged, or felt the "fixed mindset" of "I can't do this"? How did you overcome it?

I was challenged when I had to read my speech in front of my group, I overcome it by just being brave and doing it first when the other people in my group didn't want to do it.

What did you learn about yourself as a public speaker or presenter? 

That you need to practice more and more so you can get it right the first few times because it took me so many videos for me to concentrate, and I easily get distracted so I had to persist not to get distracted.

In your own words, explain what is the purpose of persuasive writing.

Persuasive writing is when you write something and present it, like saying it in public, or to your family and friends. It also means your telling the reader about something you want them to know.

Gymnastics Term 4

Today in P.E. we have to blog about what we have done this term. We have to list a few things we can do on the apparatus. The 6 different apparatus are Trampoline, Bar, Mini Tramp Parallel Bars, Beam and Floor/Mat. The four different things we can do on the Trampoline are front flip, backflip, round-off and front to back to feet. The four different things you can do on the bar are flip, trough roll, hang off with legs hanging up and pull-ups. The four different things you can do on the beam are full twist, walking backwards on the beam, walk across on tiptoes and jump on the beam. Parallel bars walk on your hands forwards and backwards, bicycle forwards and backwards, leg lifts and tuck jumps. The four different things you can do on the Mini Tramp are crash-dive, front flip, full twist and a half twist. The four things you can do on the Floor/Mat are handstand, cartwheel, bridge and splits. One thing I learnt this term is how to get up on the beam.

10 Word Dictionary

This week for reading we have to do a fast finish since we have finished our novel study books. On the fast finish board, there is a fast finish activity where we have to get 10 words from Freaks dictionary and make a creative sentence out of it. My ten words are, idea, history, herstory, lagoon, library, writing, sauropod, telemetry,  The hardest part was making creative sentences because most of the words I never knew they were words. The easiest part was everything else.
Here are my sentences.
Idea: I had a brilliant idea and planted into my head.
History: A men tell's you a story about his life.
Herstory: A women tell's you a story about her life.
Lagoon: When I went to France, I saw a cool French gangster.
Library: I went to the library, and the first thing I saw when I walked in was magic carpets flying around everywhere.
Writing: I write something down on a piece of paper and it started talking.
Sauropod: She couldn't eat meat because she was a vegan
Telemetry: Every time I sneeze in the hospitals the nurses jump

Why We Should Be Allowed To Use Your Phone During School Times

Today I have to post a blog post about my speech. For writing, we have to do persuasive writing, we all in our class had to choose a topic and write about that topic. My topic was my years 7's and up should be allowed to use their phones during school times. This Hurumanu is linked with the art stuff that we do in Hurumanu 4. The whole class has to do a speech at least less than 2 minutes. My favourite part was writing my speech. My least favourite part was nothing.

Here is my speech:

Have you ever thought about your phone during school time and having so many notifications and you want to check them all and you think “should I sneak on my phone and not listen to the school rules?” Hello, I’m Riansha today I’m going to talk to you about why students should be allowed to use phones during school times.     (Natural Pause) 


The reason why we are not allowed to use cell phones is that because students get distracted. Because if someone uses their phone in a class all the other students get distracted and don’t listen to the teacher, and they end up having to get a bad grade.  (Natural Pause) I think we year 7’s and up should be allowed to use their cell phones during class, in my opinion, is because we need our phones to tell our parents if there is an emergency, or if you forget something you can contact someone using your phone.    (Natural Pause)

  

For girls when we get our periods we need to tell our parents because we can trust them the most, and we get scared and don’t know what to do, but we can also trust our teachers but we might not all feel comfortable telling them. I think we should be allowed to use phones for if something serious happens at school and we need to contact someone.  (Natural Pause)


In conclusion, I think students should be allowed to use their phones in class, but only a limit for each year level. Think about your decision if you use your phone during school times. Ask a teacher if you are unsure if you can use your cell phone during school, or think about the other people around when you use your phone. Thank you, everyone, for listening.

Fast Finish Activity Week 6

This week for reading we have to "ketchup" on any overdue work and "pickles" where we pick an activity from the selection for fast finish activity. One of the activity one there fast finish board was "Use Canva or Google Drawing to create an alternate Book Cover for Freak the Mighty. Make sure to include the title and author. " I used Canva to create my book cover. I tried to keep my book cover similar to the real book cover for Freak The Mighty, but it's a bot different. I enjoyed this activity because it was fun creating something of my own, and did not have anything I didn't enjoy. What was easy, creating my book cover for Freak The Mighty. What was hard, nothing was hard.

Freak The Mighty Questions 1

Hello readers, 

Today for reading we have to do some questions on our blogs since tomorrow is the long weekend. So today is the last session of reading for this week. The hardest part of this was thinking of my answer to put for these questions, the easiest part was everything else.

-In Chapter 17 Killer Kane confides in Max (pg. 101-102). How would you describe the emotions he is feeling? Why is he feeling this way? Think about the work you’ve been doing in Drama about characters and their monologues. Imagine in your head the way Killer Kane would be speaking these words if this were a play.

Answer: He didn't feel any emotion until the police arrived.

-What is the conflict between Killer Kane and Loretta? Who are these characters?

Answer: Killer Kane and Loretta use to be on the same side together, Killer Kane is Maxwell Kane's father and Loretta I think she is an old lady that smokes cigarettes.

-What huge revelation does Max express to his father at the beginning of Chapter 20?  Do you think this is the right time for Max to share this information?

Answer: Freak fills his watergun up with soap and vinegar.

Today for reading we need to write 20 slang words, most of my slang words are going to be from New Zealand, we are doing this for our novel study for Term 4, the book I'm reading is Freak The Mighty. The hardest part was thinking of slang words, the easiest part was everything else.

Gymnastics

 Today in period 4 we did gymnastics we had to write a blog post about what we did today. My activities were I did on the trampoline were a front flip. I didn't have enough time to do another 2 activities. My favourite part of this was doing the front flip on the trampoline. My least favourite part was nothing.

Pink Shirt Day

Last week we started slides for pink shirt day in wananga. One of the activity's was a must do, which was to blog another activity. I chose to do how to get help and advice on anti-bulling. Pink shirt day is a day where you celebrate people who used to be students, you support them because they got bullied. They got bullied because in 2007 in Canada, two students (David Shepard and Travis Price,) both wore a pink shirt to school one day, and other students bullied them both, they posted it online and then everyone saw the post and supported the 2 students who got bullied. This year Pink Shirt day is on Monday 4th May 2020. I worked with Aone to do my slides.

Drama

Last week we had a Drama session with a new teacher her name is Miss Allen. We explored different types of stages of when you perform on stage. I chose face expressions, the photos Miss Allen took of me were really funny. We used the bullies script to do this acting. My favourite part was making my facial expressions, my least favourite part was nothing. The other types of stages were levels, spacial relationships and gestures.





Character Descriptions

Yesterday in Period 3 we are finishing up our 2 hurumanu's. One of the hurumanu's is Reading. We have to our task's for Freak The Mighty. I had to do a doc which is for our characters description. It has a table on it and we have to fill it out with the characters and their description. Some of the characters we haven't met yet so we had to leave those ones blank. I had to read the chapters 6-8. My favourite part was doing this blog post, my least favourite part was nothing.

Digital Blackout Poem

A few weeks ago we started blackout poetry, today we did Digital blackout poetry. It is similar to doing blackout poetry on paper. We used a website to do this, on this website it had 3 samples stories to make a blackout poem, you can also add your own story but we used the sample ones. I made 4 different quotes from just 2 stories online. My favourite part of this was making my blackout poem digitally. My least favourite part of doing this was nothing.

Summary About Freak The Mighty

Today we have to write a summary about Freak The Mighty. We have a set of questions that we have answer in our paragraph. The questions that we have to answer in our paragraph are: 

  • Who is the protagonist (the main character)?

  • What do we know about them and their personality?

  • What are the two main events that have happened so far?

  • What do you predict is going to happen next?


Here is my paragraph:
This book is about two young boys who are friends throughout their childhood. The main characters are Max and Kevin, Kevin is the freak, Max is the big kind friend. I know that Max is a nice boy because Kevin was getting bullied for having no brain, Kevin is just a boy who gets bullied because he apparently has no brain. Gwen is Kevin's mother, and while they were talking, Kevin told a story about King Auther.  Gram is Max's Grandparent because, after his mother's death, Max started living with his parent's Grandparents.

Blackout Poetry

Yesterday we started a new topic for term 4 in art hurumanu, we did blackout poetry. Blackout poetry is when you blackout the words and make a new poem using the words of an article, a book, newspaper basically anything with words. We did this because we haven't done anything like this before and we are doing poetic arts this term. The first step is to get inspired by blackout poem, you can get inspired by searching it up, asking family members and more. The second step was to get a newspaper and find a part of writing and look through the words and pick the ones you like. After you have looked through the words you use a pen to box the words you like. Next, we get a black marker and blackout the words you don't need, make sure you don't blackout the words you like! After we cut out our work and glued it on a piece of coloured paper. We also did the same thing but we made a shape by blacking out the words we don't need. I liked doing this type of poetry because I have never done this type of poetry before. What was hard, making a shape of the fish for my shape poem. What was easy, blacking out the words I don't need for my poem.

Expectations In P.E.

Today our P.E. class our P.E. teacher wants us to write on blog expectations of respect we should show full time in our P.E. classes and including the school.

The expectations are:

 - The people without P.E. gear will receive a consequence,

 - Before coming into the gym you must line up as a class outside the door, 

 - Once you are changed into your P.E. gear you must come in sit down as a class in place you were asked       by the teacher.

 - All gear must be left alone until the teacher has instructed you to use it.

Hurumanu 2 - Reading The Ginger Bread Man

Today in period 3 we did reading, in reading we watched a video called the Ginger Bread Man. After we watched the video we had to put some information about the characters in the story. The protagonist is old lady, old man, cow, horse, pigs and the hen. The antagonist is the gingerbread man and the fox. I think the gingerbread man was a round character because he is the main character of the whole story. The direct characterization about the old man and old lady: was that they were both lonely and they had no kids, and the old lady said to the man "that he is always outside and never spend time with each other." Indirect characterization for the gingerbread man: I think the gingerbread is cheeky because he kept on running away from eveyronebecaus ehe didn't wanted to get eaten, and because everytime someone wnats to eat him he says "run run as fast as you can, you can't catch me because I'm the gingerbread man!"

Bullies - Group Script

On Wednesday for drama, we did some slides about a script, the script is called "Bullies." Our drama teacher read out the script and we did a picture dictation. A picture dictation is where you get a piece of paper and fold the papar into six equall box's, after our teacher read's out a picec of writing and your teacher will read in parts, after you have to draw something that you think is the most important part of that bit your teache read, and you keep on doing that for all our boxes. My favourite part of this activity was doing the picture dictation because I like to draw. My least favourite part was nothing.

Activity's For Freak The Mighty

Today we are starting a new book for Term 4. I choose to read The Freak Mighty, our teacher Miss Birtch set us some activity's for the new book we are reading for Term 4. Miss Birtch wants us to do two activitys before period 4 ends. My first activity: My predeictions are that this book has a guy that has no brain and learns to get smarter and so he doesn't get bullied at school. My second activity: This book interests me because its about a boy who tries to put resilience into not to get bullied anymore.

Business & Enterprise Market Day 2020

Yesterday at school we were selling our products for business and enterprise. My group was called Aphrodite because its another name of rocks. You probably know what we're selling for business and enterprise, we sold painted rocks for people who want to decorate their house and people who are into paintings. I think this was fun because this could be us in the future having our own business and selling items and getting money. We painted at least 30 rocks and sold most of them but we had 3 left. I think we chose a good idea for this because all the customors that bought our rocks were gone so the customers were happy. I think the customers bought our rocks for the garden. I think our business was successful because we made $37 from selling our rocks. I enjoyed mrket day because we could buy form other stall's and pay to play games at the stalls.Next time for market day I would put posters around the school becasue we didn't have time to put posters around the school. First, we planed on what we did for our business and enterprise, we kept on choosing new ideas becasue stuff were too expensive and took so long to do. After, we decided to do rock paintings so I emailed my group saying we should do rock paintings, and they agreed. After we started getting data from everyone's opinionsand started painting our rocks our theme for our rocks were freestyle. I painted some cherry blossoms, K-pop groups, trees, animals and more. My business and enterprise group took turns at staying at our own stall for customours so other people in our group could buy stuff from other peoples stall's.

Student Summit

Today we did Student Summit, it was a bit of a frustrating session because the video call kept on kicking us off. We were meant to go to South Hornby School, but since of COVID-19, we had to stay at school and go to a quiet space and do the presentations. We had 4 different sessions, we had 2 sessions before interval, and 2 after interval. I have experienced this before because I did student summit last year. Student Summit is where you get to teach each other what tools you can use in our learning. Today my group presented something I have used in the past its called Canva. Canva is a tool you can use to make poster's, diagrams, advertisment's, presentations, logo's and more! I think Canav is a good app to use because you can add text, photos, elements, backgrounds, shapes and you can also upload your own images and videos! The people that were in my group were me (of course), Shelby, Hayley, Suzie, Hannah and Kirsty.

Character Words - Drama Hurumanu 2

On Monday period 1 we started doing new topics for Term 3. In the period we started doing Drama, we have to find the meaning (in our own words) what some words are. The words are Flat character, Dynamic character, Static character and Round character. We also had three words for the part which is the good character and the bad character, these words are Protagonist, Antagonist and Narrator. 

Flat character - is the character in the fiction that does not change too much of the story.

Dynamic character - a character that changes throughout the story.

Static character - a character that stays the same throughout the whole story.

Round character - is a character that is the main character in the whole story.

Protagonist - is the good guy of the movie/story, basically, all movies/stories have Protagonist.

Antagonist - is the bad guy of the movie/story.

Narrator - is the person who tells the movie/story.

Health Crisis

Today I finished my DLO for the health crisis. A health crisis is when something is popular in the country for example COVID-19. We had to research a health crisis, I chose diabetes to research. I made my DLO on a set of slides. We had to make a graph for our research. What was hard, nothing was hard for me, what was easy, making my DLO was easy for me. What did I enjoy, I enjoyed making my DLO, what did I least enjoy, nothing it was all fun for me.

Bingo DLO

Today I finished my DLO about protests. We had to do the activity's like bingo after we have to put it on a DLO. My favourite part was trying something new for a DLO (called Google Jamboard.) My least favourite part was nothing. 







Solar Oven

Last week in Science we made solar ovens, we were meant to melt cookies and marshmallows but it wasn't sunny enough, so we used our solar ovens today. The solar energy made the marshmallows and chocolate on the cookies melt. We used foil cardboard and skewers to make our oven. We waited for a few minutes for our food to melt after we ate it. What was hard, nothing was hard, what was easy, everything was easy, my favourite part was eating the food that we melted, my least favourite part was, nothing.

Car Shopping

Last week we started doing an activity called car shopping. The reason why we did this is that we were learning how to work in groups because we are doing Bussines Enterprise Kete. When we did this activity we had to buy a car, our limit money was $6000, and we also had to add in the 12-month registration and insurance for the car, we had different sites to use, and we had to make a DLO after, we decided which car we wanted and we presented it to the whole class. I think the hardest part of being in a group was, I didn't know some people that well even though they are in my class!

Women In WW1 Questions

Today in reading we did some questions about WW1. The questions were about the women in WW1 because our topic for this week is WW1. We had to make a DLO I used google drawings because I had to use something else that I haven't used for my previous questions. My favourite part was doing the questions, my least favourite part was nothing. 

Questions About Atmossphere

Today in period 4 we did Science. We are learning about the atmosphere, we have a set of questions to answer about the atmosphere. 

1. What are two reasons, Mercury lost most of its the atmosphere?

The planet's small size means that its gravity is too weak to hold down a normal atmosphere.

2. Compare how close Mercury and Earth to Sun. 

There is one planet between Mercury and Earth, Mercury is the first planet and  Earth is the third planet.

3. Compare how much mass Mercury and Earth have.

Earth: 5.972 x 10^24 kg and Mercury: 3.285 x 10^23 kg (0.055 M⊕)

4. How does not having an atmosphere affect the temperature on Mercury.

The lack of atmosphere also contributes to the planets wild temperature extremes.

Can We Afford A Pet

 Today in hurumanu 6 we did an activity about if we can afford pets. We had to do it with a buddy, we had different pets to do, we had to make a table for each pet and add the name of the animal, item and costs. after we add all the costs up. We had 7 different animal types, we had dogs, cats, guinea pig/rabbit, fish/axolotl, rats, mouse, frogs and turtle. My favourite part was doing this blog post, my least favourite part was nothing I enjoyed everything.

DLO About World War 1

Yesterday we started a DLO (Digital Learning Object). Our DLO was about what we have been doing on our World war 1 slides for the past few days. World war 1 started on 1914-1918. My DLO is just a paragraph explaining what we did. I used Canva to do my DLO. What was hard, nothing was hard, what was easy, everything was easy to do.

Egg Drop Challenge - Science Hurumanu 3

 Today in period 5 we did Science. We did an egg drop challenge, we had 30 minutes to create something for our egg to not crack when we dropped it. We worked in groups of three and four. My group started by getting all the materials to make our structure, next we assembled everything for our structure, then our teacher gave us an egg and we assemble the little eggs shelter. The materials we used were newspaper, tape, sponge, cardboard, paper towel and glue. My favourite part was making the little structure for the egg, my least favourite part was dropping it because I was scared if it would break. Our egg did not break!! I think the materials helped the egg not break because the materials were soft.
