Wananga Activities - Diwali

This week we have to complete 5 activities. The first activity that I did was a Diwali activity, we have to create a DLO (digital learning object) about Diwali. I knew a little bit about Diwali because I celebrate it every year. I used Canva to make my DLO. What was hard, making the DLO look nice but also in theme, and try to make it stand out. What was easy, getting information onto the DLO about Diwali cause I knew everything. My favourite part was making the DLO because it looks so nice. My least favourite part was nothing really. I set my own challenge that was to do the most Diwali work out of everyone in my class. Please leave me some feedback!

Book Review For Freak The Mighty

Today for Reading we have to write a book review for our novel study book. We have to write our book review as a paragraph. The title of the book is Freak The Mighty, Rodman Philbrick wrote Freak The Mighty. I choose to read this book because the cover of the book looked interesting because two boys looked like they are having fun. I think this book is really good because its a really good relationship between two best friends, and I feel like I have something in common like them. My favourite part of the book was when they became really close friends. The characters in the story were Maxwell, Kevin, Gram, Grim, Killer Kane, and Lorreta. I would recommend this book for students because they might have a strong connection with the theme of this book. But anyone can read it young or old, but you don't have to but you might be interested. Out of 5 stars, in my opinion, this book is a 4-star rating, because the chapter titles are good but some of the writing in the chapters kind of don't match with the chapter title.

Recording Our Speeches

Yesterday for Hurumanu 4 we had to record us reading our speech in groups. My speech is about why students should be allowed to use their phones during class/school times. I have to answer a few questions to reflect on this term speech writing. What was easy, recording my speech. What was hard, reading my speech in front of my group.

What was something you enjoyed about this speech unit?

I enjoyed writing about my topic and sharing it with my group.

When were you challenged, or felt the "fixed mindset" of "I can't do this"? How did you overcome it?

I was challenged when I had to read my speech in front of my group, I overcome it by just being brave and doing it first when the other people in my group didn't want to do it.

What did you learn about yourself as a public speaker or presenter? 

That you need to practice more and more so you can get it right the first few times because it took me so many videos for me to concentrate, and I easily get distracted so I had to persist not to get distracted.

In your own words, explain what is the purpose of persuasive writing.

Persuasive writing is when you write something and present it, like saying it in public, or to your family and friends. It also means your telling the reader about something you want them to know.

Gymnastics Term 4

Today in P.E. we have to blog about what we have done this term. We have to list a few things we can do on the apparatus. The 6 different apparatus are Trampoline, Bar, Mini Tramp Parallel Bars, Beam and Floor/Mat. The four different things we can do on the Trampoline are front flip, backflip, round-off and front to back to feet. The four different things you can do on the bar are flip, trough roll, hang off with legs hanging up and pull-ups. The four different things you can do on the beam are full twist, walking backwards on the beam, walk across on tiptoes and jump on the beam. Parallel bars walk on your hands forwards and backwards, bicycle forwards and backwards, leg lifts and tuck jumps. The four different things you can do on the Mini Tramp are crash-dive, front flip, full twist and a half twist. The four things you can do on the Floor/Mat are handstand, cartwheel, bridge and splits. One thing I learnt this term is how to get up on the beam.

10 Word Dictionary

This week for reading we have to do a fast finish since we have finished our novel study books. On the fast finish board, there is a fast finish activity where we have to get 10 words from Freaks dictionary and make a creative sentence out of it. My ten words are, idea, history, herstory, lagoon, library, writing, sauropod, telemetry,  The hardest part was making creative sentences because most of the words I never knew they were words. The easiest part was everything else.
Here are my sentences.
Idea: I had a brilliant idea and planted into my head.
History: A men tell's you a story about his life.
Herstory: A women tell's you a story about her life.
Lagoon: When I went to France, I saw a cool French gangster.
Library: I went to the library, and the first thing I saw when I walked in was magic carpets flying around everywhere.
Writing: I write something down on a piece of paper and it started talking.
Sauropod: She couldn't eat meat because she was a vegan
Telemetry: Every time I sneeze in the hospitals the nurses jump

Why We Should Be Allowed To Use Your Phone During School Times

Today I have to post a blog post about my speech. For writing, we have to do persuasive writing, we all in our class had to choose a topic and write about that topic. My topic was my years 7's and up should be allowed to use their phones during school times. This Hurumanu is linked with the art stuff that we do in Hurumanu 4. The whole class has to do a speech at least less than 2 minutes. My favourite part was writing my speech. My least favourite part was nothing.

Here is my speech:

Have you ever thought about your phone during school time and having so many notifications and you want to check them all and you think “should I sneak on my phone and not listen to the school rules?” Hello, I’m Riansha today I’m going to talk to you about why students should be allowed to use phones during school times.     (Natural Pause) 


The reason why we are not allowed to use cell phones is that because students get distracted. Because if someone uses their phone in a class all the other students get distracted and don’t listen to the teacher, and they end up having to get a bad grade.  (Natural Pause) I think we year 7’s and up should be allowed to use their cell phones during class, in my opinion, is because we need our phones to tell our parents if there is an emergency, or if you forget something you can contact someone using your phone.    (Natural Pause)

  

For girls when we get our periods we need to tell our parents because we can trust them the most, and we get scared and don’t know what to do, but we can also trust our teachers but we might not all feel comfortable telling them. I think we should be allowed to use phones for if something serious happens at school and we need to contact someone.  (Natural Pause)


In conclusion, I think students should be allowed to use their phones in class, but only a limit for each year level. Think about your decision if you use your phone during school times. Ask a teacher if you are unsure if you can use your cell phone during school, or think about the other people around when you use your phone. Thank you, everyone, for listening.

Fast Finish Activity Week 6

This week for reading we have to "ketchup" on any overdue work and "pickles" where we pick an activity from the selection for fast finish activity. One of the activity one there fast finish board was "Use Canva or Google Drawing to create an alternate Book Cover for Freak the Mighty. Make sure to include the title and author. " I used Canva to create my book cover. I tried to keep my book cover similar to the real book cover for Freak The Mighty, but it's a bot different. I enjoyed this activity because it was fun creating something of my own, and did not have anything I didn't enjoy. What was easy, creating my book cover for Freak The Mighty. What was hard, nothing was hard.

Freak The Mighty Questions 1

Hello readers, 

Today for reading we have to do some questions on our blogs since tomorrow is the long weekend. So today is the last session of reading for this week. The hardest part of this was thinking of my answer to put for these questions, the easiest part was everything else.

-In Chapter 17 Killer Kane confides in Max (pg. 101-102). How would you describe the emotions he is feeling? Why is he feeling this way? Think about the work you’ve been doing in Drama about characters and their monologues. Imagine in your head the way Killer Kane would be speaking these words if this were a play.

Answer: He didn't feel any emotion until the police arrived.

-What is the conflict between Killer Kane and Loretta? Who are these characters?

Answer: Killer Kane and Loretta use to be on the same side together, Killer Kane is Maxwell Kane's father and Loretta I think she is an old lady that smokes cigarettes.

-What huge revelation does Max express to his father at the beginning of Chapter 20?  Do you think this is the right time for Max to share this information?

Answer: Freak fills his watergun up with soap and vinegar.

Today for reading we need to write 20 slang words, most of my slang words are going to be from New Zealand, we are doing this for our novel study for Term 4, the book I'm reading is Freak The Mighty. The hardest part was thinking of slang words, the easiest part was everything else.

Gymnastics

 Today in period 4 we did gymnastics we had to write a blog post about what we did today. My activities were I did on the trampoline were a front flip. I didn't have enough time to do another 2 activities. My favourite part of this was doing the front flip on the trampoline. My least favourite part was nothing.
