Today in reading we did some questions about WW1. The questions were about the women in WW1 because our topic for this week is WW1. We had to make a DLO I used google drawings because I had to use something else that I haven't used for my previous questions. My favourite part was doing the questions, my least favourite part was nothing.
I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 7 and in 2021 I will be a year 8. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

Questions About Atmossphere
Today in period 4 we did Science. We are learning about the atmosphere, we have a set of questions to answer about the atmosphere.
1. What are two reasons, Mercury lost most of its the atmosphere?
The planet's small size means that its gravity is too weak to hold down a normal atmosphere.
2. Compare how close Mercury and Earth to Sun.
There is one planet between Mercury and Earth, Mercury is the first planet and Earth is the third planet.
3. Compare how much mass Mercury and Earth have.
Earth: 5.972 x 10^24 kg and Mercury: 3.285 x 10^23 kg (0.055 M⊕)
4. How does not having an atmosphere affect the temperature on Mercury.
The lack of atmosphere also contributes to the planets wild temperature extremes.

Can We Afford A Pet
Today in hurumanu 6 we did an activity about if we can afford pets. We had to do it with a buddy, we had different pets to do, we had to make a table for each pet and add the name of the animal, item and costs. after we add all the costs up. We had 7 different animal types, we had dogs, cats, guinea pig/rabbit, fish/axolotl, rats, mouse, frogs and turtle. My favourite part was doing this blog post, my least favourite part was nothing I enjoyed everything.

DLO About World War 1
Yesterday we started a DLO (Digital Learning Object). Our DLO was about what we have been doing on our World war 1 slides for the past few days. World war 1 started on 1914-1918. My DLO is just a paragraph explaining what we did. I used Canva to do my DLO. What was hard, nothing was hard, what was easy, everything was easy to do.

Egg Drop Challenge - Science Hurumanu 3
Today in period 5 we did Science. We did an egg drop challenge, we had 30 minutes to create something for our egg to not crack when we dropped it. We worked in groups of three and four. My group started by getting all the materials to make our structure, next we assembled everything for our structure, then our teacher gave us an egg and we assemble the little eggs shelter. The materials we used were newspaper, tape, sponge, cardboard, paper towel and glue. My favourite part was making the little structure for the egg, my least favourite part was dropping it because I was scared if it would break. Our egg did not break!! I think the materials helped the egg not break because the materials were soft.

Gravity Questions - Science Hurumanu 3
1. Is gravity the same on all planets?
Gravity holds the world together, gravity is not the same everywhere on Earth. So the gravity is not the same on all planets.
2. How is gravity related to mass?
Gravity is dependent on mass.
3. Calculate your weight on the other planets in our solar system.
Earth: 5.972 x 10^24 kg, Neptune: 1.024 x 10^26kg (17.15 M⊕) Uranus: 8.681 x 10^25 kg (14.54 M⊕) Saturn: 5.683 x 10^26 kg (95.16 M⊕) Mars 6.39 x 0.107 M⊕) Venus: 4.867 x 10^24 kg (0.815 M⊕) Mercury: 3.285 x 10^23 kg (0.055 M⊕) Jupiter 1.898 x 10^27 kg (317.8 M⊕)
4. How would your life be different if you lived on a planet with higher gravity?
It would be different it will be harder to walk because the gravity will pull you down.

Needs And Wants
Last week we started learning about needs and wants. Needs ware things you have to have to survive, like food, water, shelter, clothes etc. Wants are things you want but it doesn't really help like, expensive things, a relationship etc. We had to do a DLO about needs and wants, I used Canva to do my DLO. I first got a template that was facing the landscape way, after I added all the words and sentences onto my canva, and after I made it look pretty. What was hard, nothing was really hard, what was easy, everything was easy. What did I enjoy the most, making my Canva because we can create whatever we want, what did I least enjoy, nothing, I enjoyed everything.
Here is my Canva:

Parihaka
Last week we started doing Parihaka. Today I finished my DLO for the Parihaka questions, I used slides to do my DLO. Parihaka happened in the 1840s to 1870s. Parihaka is located in the North Island between Taranaki and the Tasman sea. The Parihaka people wanted to be passive, but the British wanted to take their land. What was easy, making my DLO, what was hard, nothing was really hard.

Mars Robot
Today in period 5 we did Science. We learnt how to use Spheros, some of us already knew what to do because we did arts kete, but this was my first time using Spheros. We had Ipads to control or Sphero, we had to use papers and pen to make a course for our robot after we used the Ipad to control our robot, like when you're on Mars you have to get instructions for the robot to go in the course. We had different programs to control our Sphero, we used drawing, there was also blocks and remote control.

Starryteller Questions
Today we did science in period 5, we read a book called Starryteller. We had three questions to do. What was hard, nothing was hard, what was easy, everything was easy.
- In your own words, summarise what happens at the Mars Desert Research Centre. At the research centre, they were researching about the Utah desert.
- What did Haritina find difficult about being at the research centre? Why? She found it difficult because it was not like a nine-five job, it was 24/7. And it was hard because it was a different environment, in the Utah desert.
- Why do you think it is important for astronauts to practice in an environment like this before heading into Space? I think they need to practice before they go because they might not know because they might not have experienced it before.
